What salt and sun do to a finish.
Paint is thinner than a sheet of paper. The clear coat on top is thinner still, and it is the only thing between the color and the weather. On the Outer Banks that weather is salt in the air every single day, not only on beach days, and a sun that sits higher and longer than anywhere inland.
Salt crystallizes. Mist lands on the hood, the water evaporates, and what is left is a crystal with edges. The next morning's dew dissolves it a little, the afternoon dries it again. Over a season those edges leave a fine etch in the clear coat that reads as haze, then as chalk.
Sun breaks the clear coat down. UV light snaps the long polymer chains that make clear coat clear. The surface turns dull, then powdery, then it fails in patches along the roof and trunk, where the sun hits flattest.
Correction removes the damage. A machine polish levels the clear coat below the etching and oxidation. We measure the thickness before and after so we take only what is needed, and never from a panel that cannot spare it.
A coating stops it from coming back. Ceramic is a hard, slick glass layer that does not let salt or water sit on the paint. Crystals form on the coating, not in the clear coat, and rinse off with the next wash. That is the whole difference between a car that looks new at five years and one that looks tired at two.

Assessment
A walk-around in daylight with a paint-depth gauge and a flashlight. We photograph every defect and agree the plan and price with you before anything starts.

Correction
Decontamination, then machine polishing in stages until the paint is level and clear. Interior extraction happens in parallel so the cabin is not rushed.

Protection
Sealant or ceramic laid on bare, corrected paint and cured properly. Glass, wheels and trim get their own products, because they are different materials.

Maintenance
Wash instructions that will not undo the work, and a care plan if you want us to handle it. Coatings are inspected and topped twice a year.

Based in Nags Head. No travel charge from Corolla to Manteo. Hatteras Island and the 4x4 beaches north of Corolla are scheduled as full-day studio visits with a small travel fee, quoted when you book.
Mobile work needs a level place to park and about two car-lengths of room. We bring water, power and shade. Studio days are by appointment for corrections and coatings that need a full day indoors.
